ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY

The Archbishop of Canterbury fulfills several roles including Primate of England in recognition of his leading role within the Church of England. He is also a supervisory authority for the 30 dioceses in southern England, alongside the Archbishop of York in northern England where there are 14 dioceses.

The confirmation of the election of Dr. Rowan Williams to the position of Archbishop of Canterbury took place on the 2nd December 2002. The ceremony took place at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London and was attended by 9 bishops including the Archbishop of York. He became the 104th holder of the title.
