ASCOT

Ascot is world famous for its horse race meetings and notably Royal Ascot which takes place in June. Racing at Ascot began in 1711 and Royal Ascot is said to have started around 1807 with the introduction of the Gold Cup. The event has in recent years been extended to five days and has a firm place on the social and sporting calendar.

The event is traditionally attended by the Royal Family and they carry out the annual Royal carriage procession round the racetrack, established in 1825 by King George IV.
