BATTLE OF BANNOCKBURN

On the 23rd June 1314 south of Stirling the Scots led by Robert I, King of Scots, went to battle with Edward II and his English army. The battle lasted for two days and ended with a great victory for Robert I as the Scottish forces had defeated the larger English army.

The victory saw English claims to the Scottish throne withdrawn and Bruce kept his place as monarch of Scotland. Bannockburn was a great turning point for Bruce as Scotland had been at war with England for 30 years and from June 1314 the tides of English invasion of Scotland began to turn.
