BRAEMAR ROYAL HIGHLAND GATHERING
There have been gatherings at Braemar, Aberdeenshire, since the 11th Century, when King Malcolm Canmore brought his men together to compete for the position of Foot Runner. The Gatherings continued throughout the years, sometimes for the purpose of choosing warriors for battle, or else simply as social events.
The gathering as it exists today was born in 1817, when the Braemar Royal Highland Society set about revitalising the event. Every year since, crowds have flocked to Braemar on the first Saturday in September.
Official patron of the event is HM The Queen, alongside vice patrons His Grace The Duke of Fife and Capt AAC Farquharson of Invercauld.
