COWES WEEK
Cowes Week first began in August 1826 under the flag of the Royal Yacht Club and it is the longest-running regular regatta in the world.
Cowes Week is also part of the social 'season' and is traditionally attended by a member of the royal family. There is a history of yachting in the royal family as it was a popular pastime of King George IV, which resulted in the formation of the Royal Yacht Squadron.
