Help Fixing or Replacing Your Appliances

Home appliances tend to break down at the most inappropriate of times, either when there is no one qualified to repair them, or when you are on a tight budget. The only way to prevent this from happening is to take out an appliance cover that won’t break the bank.

Once you get your domestic appliance insurance, you can rest assured knowing that should any covered device malfunction, you can just pick up the phone, make a claim and wait for an engineer to come over.

The number of domestic appliances insured depends on how comprehensive your cover is, but generally, you can protect the following against accidental damage, mechanical failure, and electrical breakdown:

  • ovens
  • washing machines
  • tumble dryers
  • dish washers
  • fridges/ freezers
  • TVs

Should the damage to your appliance be beyond repair, the insurer will either provide a replacement appliance or offer a settlement. Settlements take into account the age of the appliance, and come with a limit as to the value that goes towards a replacement.

You can lower the cost of insurance by covering multiple appliances rather than just one. Moreover, while you can choose between monthly, quarterly and annually payments, it usually makes more sense savings-wise to pay an annual cover.

Washing machine insurance

The washing machine is an indispensible modern appliance, so when it breaks down, you need to get it fixed quickly. However, repairs can cost as high as £100, and a new washing machine can fetch up to 4 times that amount.

Look for a cover that comes with no age restrictions, and no limitations on make and model. Most washing machine insurances cover mechanical breakdowns and accidental damages, providing unlimited call outs. In case your washing machine cannot be repaired or fixing it would cost too much, you should receive a replacement or reach a settlement.

Typically, the above apply to washing machines that are covered neither by manufacturer warranty nor by extended warranty.

Dishwasher insurance

This covers evaluation, repairs, labour, parts, and call out charges. Existing damage, intentional faults and misuse are not covered, though.
